It is about mushrooms and cancer

I trust that what happened to me may be of some help to those who have had or now have cancer.

I have beaten two cancers. When I say I have beaten it what I really mean is that the chemotherapy and the great care of the consultant and his wonderful staff did the job.

I have now been in remission for some time. Although I will have to have yearly checkups it does look like, and feels like, I am cured.

What helped me?

Before I tell you that, may I say I do understand we all have our own way of dealing with this problem.

My way is only intended to show you one of the many ways people cope under these circumstances.

I was, and still am, very lucky to be a positive person. I am not religious and have no fear of death. Under the threat of those two cancers, I did not change. Everyone said they thought this contributed to me getting better.

It does seem that a positive attitude does help.

I had previously been very fit. I looked back at many aspects of my life to see if there was a reason why I got cancer.

There was nothing I could put my finger on, except that in my food intake there was indeed one item I had left out for many of the previous years. It was mushrooms!

I only found this out after my second cancer was diagnosed, and I was on chemotherapy. I started to eat mushrooms again. Thankfully I love them, and to this day I don’t know why I ever stopped eating them.

My chemotherapy course was cut short because the tests and x-rays showed the cancer had disappeared early? Was this down to the mushrooms? I will never know.

My research into the medicinal properties of fungi only touched the surface. So I am in no position to make any bold statements other than what actually happened to me.

What I did learn was that although they are not a cure for cancer, there is evidence that mushrooms do build up the immune system in the body. If that evidence is true, then the stronger your immune system is, it will have an effect on fighting cancers.

I am in no way advocating that mushrooms are the magic answer. I only wish to share my story in the hope it will help in some way.

Please have a look at the research about mushrooms. Make up your own mind about any benefits you may get from eating them.

May I finally say how humbled I feel when I see or hear of children and adults who have terminal cancer getting about and living life to the full every day. Even more so when I see them working hard raising money to help others.

A word of warning:

It is very therapeutic to go walking in the woods picking mushrooms, but some mushrooms are poisonous…and can kill. Please be careful and learn about which are totally safe, or perhaps ask an experienced person to teach you.
